Swollen leg disease, also known as leg edema, is a condition in which one or both legs become enlarged due to the accumulation of excess fluid or poor blood and lymphatic circulation. While mild swelling may occur after prolonged standing or sitting, persistent or recurrent leg swelling can be a sign of an underlying vascular condition that requires medical attention.

Swelling in the legs may result from venous insufficiency, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), lymphedema, heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease, or other vascular disorders. Patients may also experience pain, heaviness, skin discoloration, tightness, or difficulty walking. If left untreated, chronic swelling can lead to skin changes, recurrent infections, venous ulcers, and reduced mobility.
